T’was the night before TIDBITS…
Welcome one and all to TIDBITS! I want to thank each of you who signed up for my weekly email humor newsletter. I’m hoping it will give you a chuckle or two to start each week with.
While the actual first issue of the new run starts tomorrow, I thought I should send off a preliminary note to make sure everything is working right. If all goes well, this and each subsequent mailing will show up as links on my Facebook page and my Twitter account. In addition, I plan to post each issue as a blog on my website. This will help me to reach an even larger audience than just my core group of faithful subscribers.
The new TIDBITS will be starting up with issue #1001. I sent off the very first one 20 years ago on February 5th, 1997, and it ran for three years, to the day, for a total of 150 issues. A year later, three days past the anniversary, I decided to start it up again. This time it ran for four years, ending once again on the anniversary date of February 5th, 2005. During much of that second run it came out five days a week, which is why the last installment had reached the whopping issue number of 1000.
It seemed like a pretty good place to end, but darn it, I just couldn’t help myself, and I wound up sending out various joke mailings to my friends during the intervening years. With the 20-year anniversary coming up I decided I couldn’t postpone the inevitable any longer, so I set up a professional email service to send it out and, as mentioned, I will also be sharing it through various outlets of social media.
Each issue will contain a collection of jokes, both long and short, as well as funny true-life quotations (a favorite of mine and a staple of my mailings over the years). I may include an inspirational thought or two, just to give it some variety. This new format I’m using will also allow me to include videos (via links) and at least one humorous doctored photo, like the one below (yes, that’s me, with my new beard).
The first new issue will be a bonus-sized retrospective, so don’t let its size discourage you from continuing to read. Nor should you let this boring welcome note turn you off — the actual issues really will be funny! (But if you don’t think so, please let me know. I always appreciate feedback.)
So hang onto your hats, folks, you are in for a milestone of mirth and merriment! Let the laughter begin!
Thanks,
Trent
